Dear WiB Community,
Hello February!
As we settle into the heart of the semester, we hope you're finding your rhythm, balancing classes, commitments, and the goals you set for yourself back in January. This time of year can feel busy and demanding, but it's also one of the most exciting.
It's where momentum turns into progress, and intentions start to look like real, tangible wins.
This month, Women in Business is all about impact, inspiration, and building toward something bigger than ourselves. We're so excited to be hosting another volunteering day with WINS, giving our community the chance to show up, give back, and make a meaningful difference right here in our city. It's a powerful reminder that leadership doesn't just live in boardrooms and classrooms, it lives in how we support and uplift others.
We're also counting down to one of our most highly anticipated events of the year: our Women in Finance Panel. This evening is all about opening doors, asking honest questions, and learning from women who have carved out their own paths in the world of finance.
Whether you're set on a career in the field or just curious about what's possible, this is your chance to gain insight, confidence, and a few new role models along the way.
And behind the scenes, Year-End Cala planning is officially in full swing. Our team has been pouring so much heart into creating a night that celebrates growth, individuality, and everything this community has accomplished over the year. We can't wait to share more as it all comes together, and, of course, to celebrate with you when the night finally arrives.
As always, we encourage you to keep saying yes, to new experiences, new conversations, and opportunities that stretch you just a little beyond what feels comfortable. Some of the most meaningful moments in WiB start with simply showing up.
Thank you for being the kind of community that makes this space so special, one rooted in support, ambition, and genuine connection. We can't wait to see you at our events this month and continue building something incredible together.

WiB Wrapped: January Edition
Thank you to everyone who came out to our recent case competition! We loved seeing so many members challenge themselves, collaborate with their teams, and think critically under pressure. The energy, creativity, and professionalism you all brought made the event a huge success, and it was inspiring to watch such thoughtful solutions come to life. A special thank you to our judges for sharing their time and expertise, and to our Gold Sponsor, EY AI & Data Collective Canada, for their generous support in making this event possible.

Sweet Plans for Valentine's Day
Whether you're celebrating with a partner, friends, or just treating yourself, Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse to do something a little special. Whether you're feeling romantic, social, or cozy, it's all about doing what feels fun for you. Here are some fun ideas for things to do around Calgary this Valentine's Day! ❤️
Coffee Crawl in Inglewood or Kensington - Spend the afternoon hopping between local cafés and bakeries and ranking your favourites
Galentine's Movie Night at Home - Host a cozy movie night in with popcorn and bake some fun desserts like cookies or brownies with your besties!
Stroll + Photos Along the Bow River - Bundle up and take a winter walk along the river pathways or Prince's Island Park, then warm up with a coffee nearby
Paint-and-Sip or Creative Workshop - Book a local art class or DIY workshop around the city for a fun, low-pressure date or friend activity
Try a New Fitness or Wellness Class - Many Calgary studios offer drop-in classes; perfect for a feel-good Valentine's plan that's not dinner-centric
Create a Vision Board - Create a vision board by gathering images, words, and quotes that represent your goals and then arrange them on a board or digitally in a way that feels inspiring and meaningful to you. It's a great solo or group activity that combines creativity with motivation
WiB World Report
Calgary Energy Firm Sees Strong Investor Confidence
Calgary-based energy company Cardinal Energy Ltd. recently expanded its bought-deal equity financing from $86.5 million to $95.15 million due to strong investor demand, highlighting continued capital market support for Alberta's energy sector into February 2026.
Alberta Renewable Energy Investment Shifts Provinces
Recent industry analysis suggests that provincial policy changes are making Alberta less attractive to renewable energy investors, leading companies like SkyFire Energy Inc. to expand projects outside the province. This trend could slow future clean energy investment and economic activity in Alberta even as other regions work to attract such capital.
Calgary's Finance Sector Continues to Create Student Opportunities
Major financial institutions, including TD Securities and BC Capital Markets, continue to expand their presence in Alberta, particularly in energy finance and capital markets. This growth supports Calgary's role as a finance hub and signals ongoing internship and early-career opportunities for students interested in banking, finance, and corporate roles.
Alberta's Pension and Investment Activity Shapes Career Pathways
Alberta-based institutional investors, such as Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), remain active across infrastructure, private equity, and energy-related investments, highlighting Alberta's continued influence in Canada's investment and asset management landscape.
