Dear WiB Community,

October is here, and with it comes an exciting lineup of opportunities to connect, grow, and celebrate everything Women in Business stands for. As we continue building momentum this year, we're thrilled to share some of the events and initiatives coming your way.

We're hosting our Career Readiness Roundtable on October 15, where you'll have the chance to sit down with professionals, ask questions, and gain valuable insights to help you take the next step in your career journey. This event is all about equipping you with the tools and confidence to succeed.

Then, we're kicking off something brand new, our WiB Social Series, with the Calgary Stampeders game on October 18! This initiative is all about creating fun, low-pressure opportunities for our members to connect outside of the classroom and build lasting friendships. We can't wait to see you there cheering alongside us.

This month is a reminder of what WiB is all about: showing up for each other, embracing new opportunities, and creating a space where every member feels supported. Whether you're here to grow professionally, meet new people, or simply be part of something bigger, there's a place for you in WIB.

Let's make October a month to remember, full of connection, learning, and fun. We can't wait to see you at our upcoming events!

With excitement,

Emma & Elizabeth

2025-2026 Co-Presidents

Highlights from Welcome Night!

ree

Our Welcome Night was an absolute blast! We kicked things off with some icebreaker bingo, the perfect way to meet new faces and reconnect with returning members. Then we hit the lanes at The Banquet, where the laughs, strikes, and friendly competition just kept rolling.

Huge shoutout to The Banquet for having us, our amazing executive team for putting it all together, and of course, everyone who came out and made the night so much fun!

And a special thank-you to Village Ice Cream, Rosso Coffee Roasters, and Friday Sock Co. for the awesome giveaways, you truly made the night even sweeter.

Here’s to an exciting year ahead filled with good vibes, growth, and a whole lot of WiB energy!

The WiB Social Series Begins!

Introducing: the WiB Social Series

We’re thrilled to launch a brand-new initiative this year, the WiB Social Series, created to bring our community together beyond the classroom and career panels. These events are all about connection, balance, and fun, giving students a chance to unwind, meet new people, and feel part of something bigger.

The WiB Socials will feature a mix of off-campus adventures and on-campus hangouts, think sports games, study & snack nights, coffee meetups, and seasonal get-togethers. Each event will be designed to keep things low-stakes, welcoming, and budget- friendly, so every member can join in.

Our Goals:

  • Community Building: Strengthen relationships within the WiB network in a relaxed and friendly space.

  • Accessibility: Keep pricing student-friendly ($0–$40 range) with occasional discounts or WiB-subsidized spots.

  • Balance: Offer a break from the academic and professional hustle while staying rooted in WiB’s inclusive values.

  • Engagement: Create year-round touchpoints to stay connected and energized.

Our first event kicks things off on October 18 with WiB Socials: Stampeders Game, where we’ll cheer on the Calgary Stampeders together in a fun, casual setting.

Stay tuned for more events coming soon, from study nights to movie screenings

WiB Socials: Your study break, powered by WiB.

Top 5 Places to Study on Campus

  1. Earth Science Stairs / Nooks

Tiny nooks, couches, and plug-ins — this is perfect when you want something lowkey and tucked away. Nice for deep work without distractions.

  1. Taylor Institute for Teaching & Learning

The second floor has balconies with comfy seats that make you feel like you're floating above the campus. The building’s modern architecture and quiet study nooks create the perfect backdrop for a peaceful, productive study session.

  1. Stairs of Engineering Building

This is especially good for group work. The stairs get light from a sunroof, so you still feel open, and it’s a social spot that’s built into the space. Plus, you’re never too far from a ping-pong or air hockey break.

  1. Education Block / Doucette Library

Smaller, quieter, and less crowded than TFDL, the third floor of the Education / Doucette block is often recommended for more focused work.

  1. The Atrium in Admin Building

A bright, open greenhouse–style space with lots of natural light and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s ideal for reading, light work, or group study when you don’t need complete silence.

WiB World Report

Bank of Canada Hits Pause (Again)

  • Good news for anyone with a mortgage: the Bank of Canada decided to hold interest rates steady this month. Economists say inflation is cooling, but not fast enough for rate cuts just yet. Translation: your wallet can breathe...for now.

Lululemon Stretches Global Growth

  • Vancouver’s favorite yoga-wear giant just reported stronger-than-expected earnings, thanks to booming international sales. The company’s new strategy focuses on menswear and sneakers, because apparently, comfy is the new corporate.

Oil Prices Lift Alberta's Mood (and Budget)

  • With oil prices climbing past $80 a barrel, Alberta’s energy sector is smiling again. Higher royalties mean a friendlier fiscal forecast for the province—and maybe fewer political headaches in Edmonton. Just another reminder that oil still runs deep in Canada’s economy.
